About This Blog
This blog is about monitoring the Hillsong ‘Church’ movement. The head of this movement is Brian Houston.
- We will be observing the Hillsong Movement’s values by critically examining their beliefs.
- We will be examining their teachings by comparing their doctrines, behaviours and methods to the historical texts of the bible.
- We will be learning about Brian Houston, head of the Hillsong movement, by exploring his history, knowing his influences, sources and correctly defining his language.
- We will be monitoring the Hillsong organisation’s vision, events/issues and outcomes and compare them to the standards of the gospel and New Testament church, revealed in the New Testament scriptures.
- We will be testing Brian Houston’s spirituallity by comparing the persons of the trinity in the bible with Houston’s ‘Godly’ encounters, his Jesus and his prophecies from ‘God’.
Why We Started This Blog
This blog does not intend to make money from people. This blog exists solely to warn people of the dangerous Hillsong Church.
We started as a group of concerned leaders, pastors and elders on Facebook from various denominations around Australia. The main desire of HillsongChurchWatch is to warn and inform people about this dangerous church, those both inside and outside the movement. We ask for your prayers both for us and those caught in the Hillsong Church Movement.
Due to the nature of the Hillsong and C3 Movements, contributors have chosen to remain anonymous to protect the well being of their families and careers.

THIS LETTER – MAY BE PUBLISHED
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
I have received a cassette tape recording of a talk given by your Senior Pastor, Mr Chris Brock on Sunday 28th June 1998 together with a transcript of that talk, in which I was named from your pulpit. I have listened to the tape and have read the transcript, which arrived at my home in New Zealand in an envelope containing, in addition to the two above mentioned items, a 20 A4 paged response letter dated July 22, 1998 addressed to Pastor Chris Brock and written by Hughie Seaborn. I have read this letter and find myself in total agreement with the sentiments and expressions of Mr Seaborn including his comment to the effect that Chris Brock has played the hypocrite. There are two additional matters, which I would like to draw to your attention:
1. BIBLICAL BASIS OF JUDGEMENT IS DEMANDED
In John 7 verse 24 our Lord commanded – “… judge righteous judgment”, while in Matthew 7 verses 1 and 2 He clearly indicated that the judgment that we make on others will be turned on us either in this life or in the next and maybe in both. I have no objection to being named from any platform. I believe it is a New Testament principle and practice for teachers to be named by sincere pastors and/or elders who seek to guard their flock from anything or anyone who is false. I think it is a reasonable expectation, however, that the basis of judgment should be biblical. Chris Brock’s outbursts, which at times approximated the rantings of an uninformed man masquerading as a genuine teacher of the Word of God were lacking biblical basis in a number of regards.
In the first instance his use of Joshua 18:1-2 was completely out of context. To use it as he did to build up an idea of the whole Nation of Australia (or any nation for that matter) voluntarily submitting to the Lordship of Christ has no Biblical warrant. To then take this idea to brow beat a brother in Christ and to establish a pretext for dis-fellowshiping that brother is akin to the malicious use of Scripture by those whom Peter the apostle refers to in 2 Peter 3:16. Chris Brock should repent of his “private” interpretation of “prophecy” (c/f 2 Peter 1:21) and learn to rightly divide the Word of God (c/f 2 Tim 2:15) and not use it to further his own ends or ideas. This is inexcusable in a person who claims to be called of God to teach the Word of God to others. I do not judge him. The Bible does – c/f James chapter 3, especially the first few verses and note that the AV “masters” is better rendered “teachers”. Your pastor has twisted the Scriptures.
Clearly, Mr Brock has adopted the Kingdom Now heresy. There is no promise that any nation, other than Israel, in God’s appointed time, will submit in totality to Jesus Christ. It is a vain hope because it is not based on true faith, which is always founded upon and inspired by the Word of God. Contrary to this idea the prophecy of Scripture is unequivocal – “evil men will wax worse and worse”; (2 Tim 3:13) “When the Son of man comes will He find faith on the earth”; (Luke 18:8) “.. that day shall not come unless the falling away (Greek for apostasy) come first and the man of sin be revealed ..” (2 Thess 2:3). Chris Brock and all other false teachers may talk all they like about “hope” and the destruction of hope, but the fact remains that if HOPE is not built upon FAITH it is a vain hope.
Incidentally Mr Brock also mutilated 1 Cor 13: 13 in his desire to castigate Hughie Seaborn and me and others who share our view when he accused us of denying these cardinal virtues. Even a school boy could tell him that “faith” precedes “hope” in this verse and not visa versa, yet Chris’ interpretation suggested the opposite – why? Because he was simply accepting the world’s view and definition of hope, though he tried to deny it. What he presented was a vain hope, which is “hopeless” and not HOPE at all.
This is one of the major contentions that I had with Andrew Evans my former colleague before I with-drew. I told him that by sending the two videos, purportedly about Kathrine Khulman around the AoG constituency, he was in effect transferring faith based in the Scripture and upon Christ to a vain hope based on “miracles”, which in my view were phony in so far as Kathrine Khulman was concerned in any event. This is the sin of the Pharisees that Our Lord addressed in Matthew chapter 16 – “A wicked and adulterous nation seeks after a sign ….” and is precisely what that main line minister, to whom Chris Brock referred, failed to see when he accused those who expose Benny Hinn for the charlatan that he is, as being destroyers of hope. Those who have real faith – ie based on and quickened by the Word of God – can never lose true hope. Benny Hinn presents people with a false hope, because it is essentially lodged in himself and not in Christ or in God’s Word. How can it be if by his own confession he practices necromancy which the Bible forbids. If you want more information on Benny Hinn and his heresy visit our web site, the address of which is listed above on our letter head.
2. ACCURACY IS REQUIRED IN ALL OUR ASSESMENTS
A second reasonable expectation is that any judgement of a person or persons should be based on accurate information. Chris Brock’s judgement was neither biblical nor accurate. Listen to the tape again. I am accused by Mr Brock both by innuendo and by implication of saying that Andrew Evans, Phil Hills, Tim Hall and Pensacola are “of the devil”. This is a false accusation. It is inaccurate and Chris Brock should now apologise publicly to the people who he has mislead and misinformed.
I most certainly have published facts, which show that Pensacola is a false and counterfeit revival. I have also published facts and assertions which indicate that I consider some of the persons that your Senior Pastor named are guilty of hypocrisy. For the record let me be explicit. When Tim Hall faced being divorced by his wife, those of us on the Executive knew that there were two sides to the story. Andrew Evans himself acknowledged this to me. When he married another woman, following his divorce, things were set in motion to accommodate his continuing in the ministry. I had resigned by this time so I do not know the inside story, BUT I do know that it was laced with hypocrisy. Tim was in no way prevented or even discouraged from on-going ministry, which included a major tour in the USA with his new wife, notwithstanding the fact that the rules of AoG required a five year proof of stable marriage. The hypocrisy was that this was simply put in the setting of holding a certificate and not in the setting of ministry function. Now I ask you what is more important, holding a bit of paper or performing a function? The whole thing was hypocritical and reeked of cronyism and nepotism something that I told Andrew Evans was rife in AoG when I was a member of the National Executive.
Please tell Andrew Evans, Tim Hall and anyone else you want that I said so. It’s far better that they (we) face it down here in the now than up there in the hereafter. Hypocrisy of that kind and at that level will inevitably lead to deception and departure and that is precisely what has happened. Practically the whole AoG movement in Australia has been led into error of the gravest kind and now the heresy is spreading throughout the international scene. Men like Brian Houston have embraced the faith prosperity heresy and through their music driven, hyped up humanistic push have deceived thousands into thinking that pragmatic success is real success. In my view the deception started with hypocrisy. This I have and will continue to expose, in the will of the Lord and without fear or favour, so help me God. Incidentally, I have tried to meet with several of the men that I have named either individually or collectively, but have been refused or ignored.
Now my dear brothers – these things I plead guilty to – what I have just written about these men and about Pensacola. If you and/or Chris Brock then extrapolate my judgements to an accusation of “being of the devil” then you do so without my sanction. You are putting words in my mouth. In respect of Copeland and Hagin then possibly I would go so far as saying, yes they are of the devil, based on their doctrine and on their practice. I doubt if any sane, spiritual person could watch the Hagin video entitled “SPIRIT OF A SERPENT” and see both Hagin and Copeland performing without concluding that they are of the devil. I recommend that you watch that video. I’m sure Hughie Seaborn will be able to locate one for you. If not we will send you one from our office in Australia free of charge. Just let me know.
FINALLY on the point of accuracy – where did Chris Brock come by the number 70,000 first time converts out of Pensacola? (The point about our denying the validity of salvation that he put forward in this connection was a non-sensible absurdity. It contained circular reasoning and was just another “straw-man” argument.) Who is he quoting and who counted them? According to an accurate researcher who toured the area immediately surrounding the Brownsville AG and who interviewed local people in their homes, a chief of police, a sheriff and newspaper people in their work places, the revival has not impacted the local area. If it’s not the locals who have been saved then where do these 70,000 “new converts” come from? May be it’s the AoG pastors and other leaders who have travelled with their own people from all parts of the world. If some AoG pastors and their people actually get saved by travelling to Pensacola then who am I to refuse them. It’s high time some of them did really get saved so that they stop telling lies and start interpreting and applying the Bible correctly and not using it with ulterior motive and so that we get rid of all the hypocrisy that has invaded Christendom. Remember all liars will find their part in the Lake of fire. False hope will do no one any good on that day.
“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” – Matthew 7:22 and 23.
These are in deed sobering words. May we all reflect on them.
Respectfully yours,
a brother in Christ,
Philip L. POWELL.
PS I have sent this letter as a file by email to Hughie Seaborn and requested that he post it to all those listed on his letter dated Wednesday July 22, 1998 and to those members of the Church that he considers appropriate. The original will be posted by air mail to Pastor Chris Brock.

I’m not into Pentecostal hype, but much of what’s been said above is rubbish in Gods eyes.Get on with your own lives.
I guarantee your own private lives would have as much,if not more rubbish in it as the people you write about.
Wake up and realize that Satan is pulling out any stops he can to stop unity in churches and he’s using you guys.
Why don’t you get on with working out your own salvation with fear and trembling, you bunch of hypocrites.
Sad thing is that you propably think your doing God a service.
Wake up!
Thanks for commenting Peter – yes we will continue to work out our salvation with fear and trembling as we continue to also be like the Bereans commended in Acts 17:1-11.
Paul and Silas in Thessalonica
“Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.” And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women. But the Jews were jealous, and taking some wicked men of the rabble, they formed a mob, set the city in an uproar, and attacked the house of Jason, seeking to bring them out to the crowd. And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also, and Jason has received them, and they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.” And the people and the city authorities were disturbed when they heard these things. And when they had taken money as security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.
Paul and Silas in Berea
“The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”
Cheers, Team ChurchWatch.
“much of what’s been said above is rubbish in Gods eyes.”
@ Peter, it obviously doesn’t bother you at all, but many of us within the Body of Christ are getting tired of all the lies.
