Hillsong advertised their 2013 Hillsong Conference in a disgraceful manner. To the non-discerning Christian, they would not pick up on the liberal language or agenda within the below blurb.
When you read the below information aboout the conference, notice how this revival is all about YOU. Don’t you think it is odd that they are promoting “revival” but down-playing the importance of “astounding bible teachers”. How can you have a Christian “revival” if the Word of God is not the focus? What to do you think is being emphasised at this conference if it is not God’s Word?
If you find the language below disturbing and would like to know where Hillsong is leading Australian Christianity, please view this important presentation by Chris Rosebrough. At the beginning of this year of 2014, Brian Houston made it clear that Hillsong is founded on the people. In other words, the volk. It is the people’s church. This is why Hillsong is so liberal and convoluted in their below description of the 2013 Hillsong Conference.
Hillsong wrote,
This is Revival
Revival is an awakening. A revitalization; a return to former glory. The Church, Christ’s body, suddeny shakes off it’s slumber and once again is re-animated, alert to a day of opportunity
This invitation to the 2013 Hillsong Conference is not about an annual event, a show, nor a grand line up of astounding bible teachers or artists.
It is about our collective here and now, and it is about the future. It is about HIS CHURCH on the earth today knowing her message, mandate and strategic moment in the chronicles of history. It is about the Church of Jesus Christ rising and weaving God’s master plan of redemption across the earth.
Revival begins in us. It is a personal awakening that in turn awakens others. It is fuelled by God’s Spirit and Word and by the purity of unity that commands His blessing (Psalm 133).
It was imagined, prayed for, and prophesied of by the faithful and fervent of former days and it is the unprecedented reality that we are living in today. Auditoriums and stadiums built for secular events, are now housing the Church alive, commissioned and mobilized.
Without doubt our most glorious and fruitful days are before us all. Our prayer is that you, your family and church will be refreshed, revived and empowered more than ever.
Our prayer is that the twelve months leading into the twenty-thirteen Hillsong Conference gathering will be “crowned with His goodness and favor” (Psalm 65) – and that the depth, breadth, reach and richness of true REVIVAL will be your portion. Our prayer is that our magnificent 2013 guests will again unleash and water the potential within our collective lives.
Across the communities, cities and nations of the earth there are still multitudes in the valleys of decision and despair … this is our moment, this is our Great Commission, this is our day, THIS IS REVIVAL.

I believe that the mandate of Hillsong Conference is inclusive, it is about teaching and resourcing, equipping and empowering, but it is also about gathering and learning from one another, with an outward focus that says we can do more together. – Brian Houston.

The subjective nonsense spouted in their advertisements is abhorrent. The point of the conference is deliberately blurred through post-modern obfuscation. Their aim is to keep advertising Brian Houston’s God-given vision of championing the cause of the local church. In other words, they impose their dangerous movement onto more vulnerable churches through their music, teachings and dangerous cult-like methodologies through various appealing means. They say their conference is all about God. They say all the right things.
But more importantly, to hide their agenda, they make sure they target you and make sure their conference is all about you. Do not fall for their marketing gimmicks. Hillsong is not about God. It is not about you. It is about them.
The problem that I have with this is – Joel Olsteen, I saw him on tv being asked if Jesus is the only way to eternal life, to God. He didn’t say, yes has true, he ummd and arrd and said not really. How shocking is that! There’s no excuse, even in the name of evangelism!
How can anyone disrespect, minimise, the sacrifice of Jesus. Yes, it’s because of the sacrifice of Jesus that we can be reconciled to God. I would never minimise that!
There’s another sermon review of Brian Houston on “Fighting For The Faith”
http://www.fightingforthefaith.com/2014/02/speak-up-speak-loud-speak-out.html
Children do make me laugh, a comment from a listener – out of the mouth of babes….
“So Chris, my son & I were listening to Brian Houston’s sermon “Speak Up, Speak Loud, Speak Out” while we were driving home today. Before it started I told him how much he sounded like Bruce the shark from Finding Nemo, and when he first heard Houston speak, he just DIED laughing! (And he kept laughing the whole way through.) About 10 minutes into it, my 9 year-old & her buddy (who were in the backseat playing hangman & totally not paying attention to the podcast) pipe up and say, “Mom, is Bruce the shark a pastor?” Ha ha! Well, no, but neither is Houston…..”
hahah…I dont know whether to laugh or cringe. rofl
I don’t understand what your point of this post is.
Colossians chapter 2 verse 13 and 14 states ” and you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with him, having forgiven you ALL trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And he has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.”
Titus chapter 2 verse 14 states ” who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from ALL iniquity….”
Acts chapter 13 verses 38 and 39 state ” therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; and by Him everyone who believes is justified from ALL things from which you could not be justfied by the law of Moses.”
These verses clearly state that we are forgiven of ALL sin, past, present, and future the moment we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior and believe in Him that He died for our sins, that from that moment on our sins are forever covered.
And so there is no confusion here, belief in Jesus and his sacrifice for our sins gives INSTANT and complete forgiveness of one’s sins, period.
John chapter 6 verse 47 states ” most assuredly, I say to you, he who believe in Me, HAS everlasting life.”
Not had, not will have, but HAS, as in instantly and forever. The point Carl is making by not adressing the issue of homesexuality publicly is the fact that it’s a sensative issue and one that requires 1 on 1 face to face discussion. Not everyone’s issue or story about being homosexual or having trouble with homosexuality is the same one. So to address it publicly is actually an arragont thing to do. And the issue of homosexuality is a SIN just like any OTHER sins that me and you commit everyday knowingly or unknowingly. And the above verses clearly state that we are forgiven of ALL sin. Homsexuality is only a big issue in regards to religion because ignorant believers have misunderstood what was said or listened to someone else who preached a false message without researching it for themselves and have declared that ” homosexuals will go to hell ” when in Truth it’s a sin like any other. So because of the misinterpretation of our past generation and the damage they have done to those who do struggle with homosexuality, Hillsong has taken the better approach of making the issue a private issue.
When in Truth it’s a sin like any other sin, and being so can be forgiven along with any other sins one has committed, one is committing, and one will commit instantly and once and for all through the acceptance of Jesus and the belief in his sacrifice which forgives ones sin.
And your point is?
@JD: “The point Carl is making by not adressing the issue of homesexuality publicly is the fact that it’s a sensative issue and one that requires 1 on 1 face to face discussion.”
I think carl or brian can speak for themselves without you guessing for them. I would like them to clarify their obscure answers, if possible.
@JD: “So to address it publicly is actually an arragont thing to do.”
The Holy Bible states it Clearly AND Publicly, JD. No mention of “requires 1 on 1 face to face discussion.”
So, in your opinion, the Holy Bible, the Word of God is..arrogant?
Please provide Scripture to support this.
Please provide Scripture for the ‘1 on 1 ‘ thing.
@the truth your mis interpreting what I said. I never said the word of God was arrogant, the way it has been used is arragont. And your obviously one sided because of the attitude you have through your words on your reply. Your not looking to correct, your looking to be right. Big difference, a perfect example why people don’t want to have anything to do with Christians, we as a group are more worried about being right, than loving each other and helping other through their struggles. You can the Truth yet still love and help someone who needs what God has given you. Jesus did not from my knowledge of his ministry condem any of the sinners he came into contact with. He old them the truth BUT he loved them regardless of what they were going through, which is exactly what Hillsong is doing, and if your looking for a perfect church who has it all together then you will be sorrowly dissapointed, have a good day sir and God bless you 🙂
“He old them the truth BUT he loved them regardless of what they were going through, which is exactly what Hillsong is doing,”
I think we need to put this into true perspective…. Hillsong is lying to them, and taking their money. Is that love?
Evidently many/most of our visitors do not read the Bible.
As has been pointed out so many times before, they rarely quote Scripture, however they constantly force their own personal misconceptions of what it says on the rest of us (who do read the Bible)…
Now THAT’S hypocritical…
@JD: “I never said the word of God was arrogant, the way it has been used is arragont. And your obviously one sided because of the attitude you have through your words on your reply.”
My attitude? I simply asked you if you have Scripture to support your thinking, and you don’t.
@JD: “I never said the word of God was arrogant, the way it has been used is arragont.”
Yes, again it is only YOU, who thinks that a clear and very public Biblical statement should be used your ‘modern’ way, without any Scripture to support your thinking.
@JD: “Your not looking to correct, your looking to be right. Big difference, a perfect example why people don’t want to have anything to do with Christians….”
I have asked you to question your own statements against Scripture…there was no correction at all in my reply.
The best example of “why people don’t want to have anything to do with Christians” is to watch hillsong, benny hinn, steven furtick, joyce meyer and others.
Living a worldly rock star life on the tithes of their sheep, consistently taking Scripture out of context, their money, their minds, while the thousands of victims of these places are left to fend for themselves.
The best thing you can do to help is stand on the solid ground of God’s Word in the Holy Bible, without modern, watered down counterfeit preachings.
Trust me, there are thousands of websites like this fighting to show discernment of the Holy Bible unadulterated by seductive, entertaining, modern ‘theories’.
Many, many thousands of people worldwide have gone back to the Holy Word and have proven to themselves that their old ‘worldly version’ of christian teachings have been incompatible with The Bible. Christ DOES want His lost sheep to return to Him.
Let God’s Word be the authority. That is why there is a warning at the end of Revelation. God forsaw these counterfeits and warned us NOT to add our own words to Scripture with distortion, addition, subtraction or intentional misinterpretations.
Some VERY public warnings to consider:
1] 1 A warning from Moses in
Deuteronomy 4:1-2:
“Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you.
2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
2] Proverbs 30:6
“Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”
3] Revelation 22:18
” For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.”
“We give no offense in anything, that our ministry may not be blamed” (2 Corinthians 6:3).
Plain and simple. it says IN ANYTHING! If a dressing the subject publicly causes offenses to people who struggle with homosexuality then our ministry is ruined, which is exactly why hillsong doesn’t speak openly about how they handle 1 on 1 situations in regard to homosexuality. Christians who think that reciting scripture to those who don’t even believe in some cases is going to help , then I would highly recommend that that person PLEASE study more and closely observe how Jesus and the disciples went on with teaching and instructing others on the word of God. Every case has its own circumstances and to give an answer like that publicly is the wrong place and time to a dress the problem. I appreciate you trying to ask questions, and seeking but please try to understand that LOVE is most important. God is love and without love in what we do,why then do it at all? Isn’t that why Jesus came and rescued us?
@JD: “Christians who think that reciting scripture to those who don’t even believe in some cases is going to help , then I would highly recommend that that person PLEASE study more .”
How closely have you observed the Word of God?
Didn’t Jesus Christ and the Holy Apostles explain to a non-believing Jewish population and priests..by using Scripture and refuting false corruptions of it? Yes He did. Should they study more?
@JD: “If a dressing the subject publicly causes offenses to people who struggle with homosexuality then our ministry is ruined.”
Addressing a subject publicly is exactly what Jesus Christ was doing to the Seven churches in Revelation [ and many other examples in the bible, which you seem to ignore].There are greetings, criticisms, warnings and assurances, ALL done VERY publicly.
If nothing can be addressed publicly, then a few billion people around the world might have to wait quite a long time for a ‘1 on 1’ face meeting.
I’m not sure what your issue about homosexuality is, or why you want to quiet God’s commands about it, but the Holy Bible is clear and a very public statement of the Word of God.
Hi JD – what does God say about those who practice a homosexual lifestyle? Are they going to go to heaven?
Are you prepared to give a straight answer as an ambassador for Christ or are you going to be as spineless as those who refuse to be clear on God’s Word?
@JD, You are misapplying that 2 Corinthians verse. Paul did not hesitate to label “homosexuality” as “sin.”
Paul had previously written 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, and around that time Romans 1:26-27.
1 Corinthians–A.D. 55
2 Corinthians–A.D. 55-56
Romans– A.D. 56
no I’m not mis applyinng it. You are just not understanding what I’m saying. I never said he didn’t mention the issue of homosexuality, nor did I say that we shouldnt stand our ground on homosexuality, I was using this verse simply to show that the place and time to a dress this issue was wrong ( since it would cause an offense to so many in this situation mind you), and for Christians to bash hillsong because they won’t publicly tell millions of homosexuals WITHOUT the OPPORTUNITY to respond or ask questions to as why it’s a sin or why we as Christians can’t agree with it is obserd. You can still tell the truth and explain God’s word without offending someone but only! In the opropriate time and setting. And by doing it publicly on a tv show where millions of unbelievers are watching and where theres only a window of 5 minutes to talk about it, would offend sooo many who would now be further disillusioned from what Gods word really has to say about the issue, and possibly never again want anything to do with God. I hope that explains what I’m trying to show you. God bless
And to your reply, I specifically said if adressing the issue PUBLICLY causes offenses….. I never stated anywhere that we should not adress the issue AT ALL due to offenses.
1 Cor 1:18 “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
It’s the cross is “foolishness and folly” to those who are perishing, whether thief, homosexual or adulterer. By removing the offense we remove the substance. We can’t water it down without losing it all. There’s not a separate message for homosexuals, JD.
JD, you seem to be confusing the role of a preacher with a personal counsellor. Yes, when interacting with individuals there should be sensitivity to each person’s situation.
That doesn’t mean the preacher should be giving generalised counselling sessions for people with certain struggles (e.g. homosexuality) he imagines might be in his audience . He has a job to do *at church*, preach God’s Word. If the bible is preached from honestly it *will* inevitably offend some people. e.g. Jesus only way to the Father (see John 14:6) will offend people who believe all religions eventually lead to the same God.
But look at this individual case where Jesus responded to a ruler’s question. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+18%3A18-27&version=KJV
Q: When Jesus saw that man walking away, did he run after him, saying a Hillsong-esque message like “I can already see God is your main purpose in life. He still wants you to be rich but you will serve him more effectively if you follow me….”?”
A: No Jesus didn’t. He just let that man walk away.
If Jesus (and later the apostles) didn’t dilute difficult teachings why do churches like Hillsong believe they should do so? Does Houston/other Seeker-Sensitive preachers know better than Jesus?
“and for Christians to bash hillsong because they won’t publicly tell millions of homosexuals WITHOUT the OPPORTUNITY to respond or ask questions to as why it’s a sin or why we as Christians can’t agree with it is obserd.”
jd, anyone can use your logic to say the Bible itself is obsolete. the NT was written with instructions 2000 years ago to homosexuals and everyone else, who cannot go back and debate with the original authors. so what? what does that have to do with anything?
here is your real problem…. you are debating with God.
“And to your reply, I specifically said if adressing the issue PUBLICLY causes offenses…..”
@JD, A letter written to a church WAS public:
colossians 4:16
“After this letter has been read to you, see that it is also read in the church of the Laodiceans and that you in turn read the letter from Laodicea.”
“Follow the pattern of the sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus; guard the truth that has been entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us”.
that is from 2 Timothy 1:13-14.
what is the key in there? “guard the truth”.
brian houston watering down the Gospel message or Bible verses cannot be considered as “guarding the truth”. that includes we are not to make it appear as homosexuality is special so it deserves special leniency, special treatment, and special explanations. it doesn’t. show me some other sins you think that deserve this special treatment. that is very similar to the a catholic doctrine of “venial sins”. it is another false teaching. it is like saying you can’t address adultery in public, or stealing in public, becasue if you do, you might embarass or offend someone who’s doing that too.
“But those elders who are sinning you are to reprove before everyone, so that the others may take warning”.
This is from 1 Timothy 5:20.
i can’t find a whole lot of tiptoeing going on in there. the Bible is not meant to make people “feel good”. word of faith preachers are meant to make people “feel good”.
@JD.”I was using this verse simply to show that the place and time to a dress this issue was wrong ( since it would cause an offense to so many in this situation mind you).’
Yes JD, you were USING this one verse to apply YOUR thoughts to the Whole Word of God.
Have you considered that millions of Biblical Christians may be offended by your watering down of the Word of God whilst you are busy not offending homosexual lifestyles?
You have a duty to tell people, ALL people, EXACTLY what the Word of God says.
Everyone must try and turn away from their sins and seek Jesus Christ on His terms..not ours. Yes it is hard, but we must be honest with ourselves and especially to those who are new to Christianity.
@JD: “for Christians to bash hillsong because they won’t publicly tell millions of homosexuals WITHOUT the OPPORTUNITY to respond or ask questions to as why it’s a sin or why we as Christians can’t agree with it is obserd.”
brian houston has had DECADES to address this issue. And at that farcical ‘news conference’, neither brian, nor bobbie, nor joel, nor carl lentz could elaborate on homosexuality.
“Umm, ahhh, weighty, vexed, i think i line up with Paul..”
WHY won’t brian houston or hillsong be specific?
WHY won’t they quote the Apostle Paul?
WHY can’t they announce the Word of God on this matter? It isn’t a secret..it’s been well known for 2000 years!
Does brian houston NOT want to repeat and announce the Absolute, Infallible, Word of God to the world? Isn’t that what a ‘hillsong pastor’ should do?
Hillsong has never been about “outstanding theologians.”
Otherwise they would have been called, “Hillword.”
