Chris Rosebrough concludes,
“So here’s the thing. Having gone through this entire excercise um- I’m glad that Brian Houston has clarified. I think it was important for him to do so because you know to not clarify on such an important doctrine would have been to compound his error and create all kinds of problems. You know- for him and others. Okay? So I’m glad that he’s clarified.
It is wrong of him to blame this on the critics. The fault for all of this lies not on Houston’s critics. The fault for all of this, lies on Houston who didn’t speak clearly. The lack of clarity in his speech was caused by his twisting of the biblical passage and making a point and then not fully developing a particular point that he was making. So it was an error on top of an error. That’s why this happened. Not that critics are out to get him.
The fact is this: that the reason why Brian Houston has critics – and I’m one of his critics – the reason why Brian Houston has critics like me and like others is due to the fact that he is a heretic. He teaches the Word of Faith heresy, he twists God’s Word and I would recommend that if you are not sure about this, go into the archives of Fighting for the Faith. Go to FightingForTheFaith.com. Type in Brian Houston. Over the years we have covered many different things that Brian Houston has said and preached and taught. And we’ve demonstrated that this man habitually twists and mangles God’s Word. This was just another example of it that you heard in this episode of Fighting for the Faith.
This is a man who needs to repent. Repent of the Word of Faith heresy. Repent of the prosperity gospel that he preaches, repent of his bible twisting and ah- [inaudible] now he’s teaching for TD Jakes in Florida who denies the doctrine of the trinity and teaches modalism or at least some bizarre form of it […] So Brian Houston there’s- lets just put it this way. It’s not like this guy is just going along correctly handling God’s Word and preaching the truth and proclaiming sound doctrine and all of a sudden he got t-boned by some you know mean group of bloggers. No-no-no.
The reason why Brian Houston has critics is because where there’s smoke in his case there’s fire. And this is objectively provable. Again, I am glad that he took the time to clarify these things. But the issue is that the fault is not on the critics. The fault still lies with Brian Houston. And so although I am glad he clarified his statement (which is what he needed to do), I’m supremely disappointed that he’s painted himself out to be the victim of criticism when in reality the blame for all this rests squarely only on Brian Houston’s shoulders.” [1:12:03]
You misunderstood Bryan and he admits his vague comment so stop trying to destroy a ministry that is good. He told you he knows and preaches that Jesus is the only way and that Muslums do not worship the same God as us. What else do you need? Why is it that I as well as many others understood what he ment.
We haven’t misunderstood Brian. However, Brian misunderstands the Christian faith. If his ministry was Christian he would not preach a false gospel, a false Jesus and stomp on Christians who put God’s authority above his own. This is why Brian shows continual disdain to Christians who are told by the bible to exercise biblical criticism/discernment.
It is not wrong to say that Houston again and again has shown his hand as a false teacher. We have demonstrated he has repeatedly misrepresented Christianity for at least over a decade.
“What else do you need?”
In Titus and the letters to Timothy, the Apostle Paul contrasts the marks of false teachers to the biblical Christian minister. A false teacher cannot be a biblical Christian minister. What Brian needs to do is step down and hand his leadership reigns over to a biblically qualified minister and go through proper training himself. It’s what God Word requires of him.
Whoever you are, you seem to know the Word of God far more than Brian, so feel justified to be his judge and a critic! I am sure you must have lead millions to the Kingdom of God, if not all your so called wisdom and knowledge will perish with you one day. How people have lost the fear of God to judge The Lord’s anointed!!!
Hi Darrel,
From what you said you sounded like you are scared of Brian because he is anointed, Paul Yongi Cho and his son were convicted of defrauding their church of more than 16 million dollars. A former church member alerted the authorities about Dr Cho and his son who is now in prison. The new covenant is not the same as the old where only the Levitical priest were allowed to enter the holy tabernacle or holy of holy. All believers are allowed to enter the most holy place because of the blood of Jesus now. Either you have the holy spirit in your heart because you believe in Christ finished work or you do not have him. True believers abide in Christ, the same Christ who is in the heart of Brian Houston. I am a believer and the Spirit of Christ dwells in me same as you if you are a believer.
Christ did not warn his disciples of false teachers just for conversation sake. Christ meant every word he spoke. I know Bobbie and Brian very well, If you know them you will be shocked of how cold and manipulative they are now.
That is why Christ warn us that we can not both serve God and money. Christ said “you have to hate one and love the other” Its so simple you do not have to be a theologian to understand that unless you love money..lol
Tell us Darrel, if you find out Brian and Bobbie are stealing money from people and have evidence to prove it, What would you do? Inform the police or try and hide the evidence ?
If you hide the evidence then by law you are an accomplish. In other words you are guilty of perverting the cause of justice, if the matter gets to the Australian Court of Law.
God gave the authority to those Judges and Magistrate to protect everyone from fraudsters, thieves, murderers ..etc. That is why Apostle Paul spoke about honouring the Authorities or Government in place.
Unfortunately Pastor Paul Yongi Cho and his son thought that they are so anointed they are allowed to defraud people of 16 million dollars.
One more quote, the bible teaches that those who want to get rich lay a snare for themselves. Yes Darrel a ” SNARE” God said that in the new testament.
So much for the prosperity gospel..lol Why dont you go and ask Pastor Brian or Bobbie what that scripture means…lol
Well said Al. Well said.
@ Al – I understand where you’re coming from, but in your comment above, you jump from Brian Houston to Yonggi Cho seeming to imply Houston is guilty of a crime like Cho.
In one sense any man who preaches a false gospel will be found guilty in a heavenly “court”, but to be fair, Houston has not been “charged” along the lines of Cho.
Maybe it’s just your thought process not translating so well as a comment? 🙂
@ Darrel – we are told to “test all things”, even the words out of Brian Houston’s mouth.
Winning souls, or the process of evangelizing/witnessing, is simply communicating the message of salvation to unbelievers.
We are all called to be His witnesses. As believers we are His anointed.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22: “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee”
Hi Berean,
I apologise for not taking the time to explain why I mentioned Paul Yongi Cho. Brian and Bobbie Houston are using the old testament “law” to scare people or should I say manipulate people to give more money to hillsong. they use Malachi 3:9-10 and other scriptures to get all these trusting people who are new to church or too lazy to study the scriptures properly to give them more money. Berean Jesus was punished for our sins and he took away the curse of the law. Jesus was made a curse for our sake. Now all these pastors who use Malachi 3:9-10 say that if you want God to remove the curse off their finances you need to pay them or give them 10% of your income. Once they use Malachi 3:11 to make people give then what they are really saying is that Jesus did not remove the curse of the law from us. That means we are still cursed unless we pay them the tithe then God will rebuke the devourer. That is absolutely stupid, rude, arrogant and deceptive to say the least.Lying or misusing Gods word for profit is the same as stealing, they use the freedom of religion to hide this deception about tithes, first fruit offering and all other offerings they use to fleece innocent and trusting sheep.Fraud is illegal in Australia the last time I look, This is corporate fraud in every sense of the word masterminded by cold hearted and selfish, arrogant people who have the sense of entitlement to your money.
Please read 1Timothy 6:3-6 Amplified says we are not allowed to profit from the gospel or use the gospel for business even to make a living from it.it also warns Christians to withdraw or not to have anything to do with anyone who considers the gospel as a way of making money. By Grace we are saved, that Grace includes your income or money. We can not buy healing or salvation what makes you think we can pay for financial blessings..lol It is our faith in Christ that releases all the blessings promised to Abraham not any money we give that is absurd and ridiculous to try and manipulate God to bless us by paying him money..lol
I was a member of hillsong church I know what they teach and I know Brian instructed the board and all senior pastors not to give any financial assistance to any church member including pastors even if they loose their homes or no money to buy food. Hiilsong take in about 50 -60 million dollars each financial year. Not even 2% of that is used to help anyone in the church or to give to any charities. A pastor I know who is still at hillsong shared his disappointment with me that many people in the church are hurting financially but they are not allowed to give any financial help. These are the same people who have been giving money to hillsong for years.
Please understand Berean I have nothing against Brian but I hate what they do to people who are hungry for God and are trying to seek Christ for salvation.
I have seen Brian Houston speak at Ed Young Jr’s Fellowship Church north of Dallas.
Most popular leaders in America are there because they are not so dogmatic about
truth. Houston, although from another country, seems to fit that pattern like a Joel
Osteen or Ed Young Jr. The Hillsong leader from New York was on a 700 club
piece and said it was not his responsibility to be dogmatic on “sexual issues”.
Ok, if not pastors, who then? We have spineless leaders today in high profile
positions. Does Houston ever deal with truth errors as leaders are commanded to;
2 Timothy 4:1-4, since the western church is full of itching ears type teachings?
Thanks Al – I understand. We were part of a similar church for 22 years so have been very over-exposed to the “prosperity” gospel.
It has been likened to Amway where those at the top profit hugely. They have their mansions, their motorbikes, their money (and Malachi 🙂 and gained that worldly “reward”).
2 Timothy 3:10-17 “You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
When I read the above text I often consider the words “while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived”, realize these men are deceived and God allows it.
Having come out of the same deception, I grieve for those still caught up, even the pastors. We should pray that God will have mercy and open their eyes.
Do they think being “critiqued” or called out as false teachers/prophets is equivalent to Paul’s trials, persecutions and sufferings?
They all live in a rarified atmosphere, surrounded by like-minded men, stay in the same preaching circuit world-wide, profiting off each other, as members of their congregations blindly support them to their own folly.
And it’s being brought out into the light finally.
Brian Houston misspoke, and clarified his statement. He doesn’t support Islam.
Meanwhile, the real heretic Pope Francis is encouraging Christians and Muslims to jointly share their devotion to the Virgin Mary at an Islamic-Christian Prayer Meeting in Beirut. http://visnews-en.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-virgin-mary-in-islamic-christian.html?m=1 http://news.va/en/news/the-pope-entrusts-to-mary-all-the-citizens-of-leba
And Francis says the Holy Spirit works through Mary ” …through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, I invoke the constant assistance of the Holy Spirit upon you and your initiatives.” http://campus.udayton.edu/mary/recentpopesayings.html Totally appalling.
And what makes you think that Brian Houston has a problem with Pope Francis? Hillsong has no problem worshiping with Roman Catholics. Furthermore, Roman Catholics have believed for centuries that they and Muslims serve the same God.
I dont agree with you there cw..Catholics don’t worship allah and muslims don’t worship the Holy Trinity. The Crusades show that they didnt have a common belief.
Bill. People did understand what Brian said. “One God different views” was tweeted by one of his supporters.
The issue I have is that there wasn’t a one sentence blunder. If you listen to the context, in fact, the whole sermon, what Brian said fitted with his talk. I think he meant to say it.
Even when the issue was highlighted at a Q&A after the sermon, the video was still uploaded, without correction.
Brian just needed to make the correct teaching public without pretending it was a clumsy sentence and then having a go at the critics. I don’t think Brian would have made such an important correction without the critics. I am really glad he did. So why does he think it is so bad that the issue was highlighted? The critics were doing the job he should have done in the first place.
Now the focus will be on what does he teach? Especially on the more culturally topical issues. Christ is exclusive, not inclusive.
