Recently we reported that the popular HGTV star and self-proclaimed Christian evangelist, Jen Hatmaker, came out and affirmed homosexuality. You can see the original post here. In summary, Jen Hatmaker believes that sodomites can come together in a union found to be holy and honoring to God, and should be accepted in the church.
When asked if she’d attend a “wedding” of her gay friends, she goes on to say,
I would attend that wedding with gladness, and I would drink champagne. I want the very best for my gay friends. I want love and happiness and faithfulness and commitment and community. Yes. That’s an easy answer.
Lifeway Christian Stores, a Southern Baptist Entity, subsequently pulled all of her books and materials from their inventory as a result.
However, if you follow the downgrade of Hillsong at all, you may be delighted to know that Hillsong UNITED’s lead pastor, and co-pastor of Hillsong NY, finds Jen Hatmaker’s newly affirmed beliefs “refreshing.” Joel Houston, son of Brian Houston, the current CEO of Hillsong Australia, tweeted the following:
This coming out with the recent revelation that Houston’s co-pastor, Carl Lentz, has been severely compromising the gospel in public, among other things, it should be more than abundantly clear to everyone that Hillsong is a compromised imitation of the true Bride of Christ, and is led by people who know not the Scriptures, or what God has to say about His church.
In response to an inquiry of his first tweet regarding the “refreshing” nature of the article, he tweets the following:
I would encourage any who listen to Hillsong music to stop. These men purport to be Christians yet habitually pervert His grace for profit. If your church plays their music, complain. You have the right to do so. Your tithes and offerings are lining the pockets of men like this.

This is another disappointing comment by a member of the Houston family on this
subject. More evidence that the Houstons are wishy washy (or even sympathetic) in their attitude to homosexuality and/or ‘same sex marriage’, contrary to what the bible says.
Joel uses the term ‘hate/fear’. But to disagree with homosexuality isn’t to fear or hate the people imprisoned/involved in this lifestyle, it’s to hate the sin, like any other sin, e.g. theft, deceit, abuse, adultery.
Same sex attracted people and active homosexuals can and have been transformed by God’s power, as believers. Why do so many (even some Christians) think a homosexual has no option but to be perpetually involved in such a lifestyle? Joel could have mentioned that homosexuals have hope in Jesus, and can be transformed by the renewing of their minds – and no longer be controlled by lusts. But yet again, another Houston tries to please man, at the expense of being obedient and taking a stand for Christ.
“What I found…”
Personal opinion is unimportant. Joel Houston is supposed to be a Christian pastor, therefore a defender of the Christian faith.
“… refreshing was her honesty…”
If honesty outranks New Testament commandments for marriage https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+5%3A33&version=KJV
…will Joel Houston tweet exactly the same tweet if another person wearing Hillsong church’s public seal of Approval expresses their support for polygamous marriages (because they just want their committed group-marriage friends to be happy)?
“Gospel of love versus hate/ fear…”
There is only ONE Gospel. Hint: it’s in the bible. Homosexuality is always clearly condemned in genuine translations of the bible. Joel Houston has learned the verbal gymnastics well – in just one sentence there’s a double somersault of hypertolerance with a subtle half-twist of guilt trip and snide remark for critics.
No clear defence of his position or clear admission of error. Like father like son – he lacks a spine. And like jellyfishes in Australia’s waters potentially lethal.

“No clear defence of his position or clear admission of error. Like father like son – he lacks a spine.”
It’s sad when a heretic’s victims include members of his own family. It makes one wonder how things might have turned out for Joel Houston if only he had been the beneficiary of a normal upbringing. No doubt Joel will spend his eternity in the flames cursing the spiritual perversion of his father, who has lied to him from the beginning.

Hi love should accept all people. You are wrong.

“The sobering fact is that God is so holy and righteous that He hates the sinner (Psalm 5:5; Lev. 20:23; Prov. 6:16-19; Hos. 9:15). Some say that we should say that God only hates the sin but loves the sinner. But, the above scriptures speak contrary to that. But it is also true that He is love (1 John 4:8). It is better to accept the love of God found in Jesus than to reject it and suffer His wrath.”
Cheers, Team ChurchWatch.
That’s very interesting. CARM digs out four Old Testament scriptures in an attempt to reject a New Testament principle based on the cross. Surely it’s the goodness of God that leads us to repentance, so how is this goodness presented?
Whilst it’s true that God rejected both the sinner and the sin under the Old Covenant, the very point of the cross was to forgive the sinner and remove the sin, making the way for the sinner to be redeemed.
I’m pretty sure that God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
You know, I love Jesus. He has very clear directions for the lives of the believer. Sin is sin. He hates ALL sin. He does not misplace any to pacify our flesh. Galatians 5:19-22 tells us that. Man, in our fleshly lusts, will always and continually twist the Word to see how “much” we can get away with. So, how much sin is okay? Sin is NOT love, it’s deception. Yes, you were born gay, but Jesus said to be born again. Yes, He loves you, but He still hates sin. Come on people. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to get it. Much love
So so so so true!!!!!. All of your comments Cathy.
It infuriates me to no end, how people try to fit a Holy God, to their own opinion or agenda.
P.S. – There is NO NEW gospel!!!
Hillsong, because the compromise stinks in Gods nostrils. Totally infuriates me too, with their compromise, back peddling & their acting like chickens pecking at headlights.
A bunch of compromising money grabbing fools that totally makes God and myself and others vomit.
No wonder sadly so many people in society in general don’t want anything to do with God, because of what they see from these (swear word with held).
It makes me so totally furious.
They are taking so many people to hell.
They are fully and utterly responsible.
Enough said.
I wonder how many people have been brought into the knowledge of our Lord and Savior by hating them? Show them love and they might listen. If they listen they might believe. If they believe then Jesus can change them on the inside. When God changes their heart then their outward actions will begin to change also.
