HILLSONG’S FALSE INCLUSIVE GOSPEL

Hillsong has continually downplayed and rejected the Christian gospel and the need for repentance. The work of Cameron Buettel has continually exposed Hillsong’s continual lack of preaching the gospel of repentance.

As a result of this, we have noticed how Brian Houston has vehemently been grooming his church to be ecumenical and embrace different beliefs, ideas and forms of false “Christianity”.

Three things Brian Houston has been specifically pushing in Hillsong is Chrislam, (what we call) Queerstianity and pagan Roman Catholicism. In this article we will be looking at the definitions Brian Houston has provided so we can understand what he means by “Muslim” and “homosexual”. While Brian Houston is deliberately vague, he has provided us with just enough substance for us to see how his mind sees certain groups of individuals. In fact, he has created enough imagery for his audiences so he can conjure certain stereotypes in their minds.

ACCORDING TO BRIAN: MUSLIM = “MUSLIM EXTREMIST”

hillsong islam muslimEarlier this year, we exposed Brian Houston gas-lighting his audience to believe that Muslims and Christians serve/worship the same God. We pointed out the fact that Brian Houston was promoting the false liberal “inclusive” gospel and was pushing the idea that Christians can embrace Muslims as our Christian brothers and sisters (Chrislam).

Brian Houston’s Allah “clarification” exposed the fact that he has no problem deliberately misleading Christians around the world over the things he believes. Furthermore, in his statement he claims,

“If you listened to the message in its entirety, my point was that; who a Muslim extremist believes God is, determines what they believe God does, and what they believe God loves.” [Source] [Emphasis ours]

In Brian Houston’s Allah clarification he linked Muslim to “Muslim extremist”. In other words Houston appears to link Muslims to Muslim terrorists. However, in his sermon there was no such link made. In his sermon, he only referred to Muslims once. In his well though-out clarification to the media why did Brian Houston link Muslims to extremists?

What does the word “extremist” normally conjure? What was Brian Houston hoping to achieve in this?

ACCORDING TO BRIAN: HOMOSEXUAL = “CONFUSED IN THEIR SEXUALITY”

hillsong lgbtqi gay homosexualThis year we also published a series of articles exposing Brian Houston grooming his church to embrace what we call Queerstianity.

The Anthony Venn-Brown, John Shelby Spong and Ben Gresham connection have effectively been pushing the same-sex agenda behind the pulpit of Hillsong. As a result, Brian Houston and Hillsong are furthering the gay agenda.

Recently Brian Houston and his church hit American headlines over Houston’s remarks over same sex issues in America. As a result of Houston’s controversial statements, it appeared that some journalists, bloggers and apologists were digging through our articles and started reviewing the Houston/Gresham connection.

Certain individuals reviewed Brian Houston’s sermon “Scandal of Grace”. In this sermon, Houston said the following:

“Well it’s the weight when a young person growing up in a church feels like they are confused in their sexuality. They feel like “maybe I’m gay” and they go to a youth leader and they are rejected.” [Source]

So according to Brian Houston, someone who thinks they are gay is “confused in their sexuality“. In other words Houston thinks a homosexual can be someone with sexual identity problems.

Don’t think that this information is not important. It is. These insights into Houston’s mind are helpful for us considering his very controversial God-given vision for Hillsong at the beginning of this year for 2014 and the way Hillsong has progressed this year.

hillsong islam muslimIn light of the Hillslam controversy, why did Hillsong pull their sermon ‘Living for the Master’s Well Done’ from YouTube? Brian Houston is telling the truth and has nothing to hide… right?

This series of articles will be examining Houston’s “clarification” and why Houston pulled his sermon.

Brian Houston said in his clarification:

For further clarification, here is the context of my message:

King David said about His God in Psalm 119:68, “you ARE good and you DO good”. Who David believed God IS, determined what He Believed God DOES.

The spirit of the message was exactly the opposite of what some critics are claiming. If you listened to the message in its entirety, my point was that; who a Muslim extremist believes God is, determines what they believe God does, and what they believe God loves.

I was contrasting their harsh perspective of (their) god, with who I believe God is – (a Loving God, the Father of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ) and therefore what I believe God does and what I believe God loves. The ONE sentence that critics are drawing huge conclusions from was clearly a (clumsy) way of me explaining that though both Christians and Muslims believe they serve the God of Abraham, they are very DIFFERENT ‘entities’ or ‘deities’ in both nature and action.

Source: Brian Houston, 2014 March, Hillsong, https://hillsong.com/media/2014-March-Correction, Accessed 18/07/2015.

This is a lie which we will be addressing in this article. He deliberately pulled the sermon, hoping no one could examine his claims. We have watched the sermon again and have transcribed the majority of the message leading up to his claims about Allah. Once we dissect what Brian says in his “clarification”, it will become evident that Houston is lying to his church and the general public. The context of his message was not on Psalm 119:68. The sermon was titled ‘Living for the Master’s Well Done’  for a reason. It was the parable of the talents that this sermon is founded on and this is what we will be examining.

Thanks to Ken Silva from Apprising Ministries, you can watch ‘the ‘Living for the Master’s Well Done” sermon here:

WF PREACHER BRIAN HOUSTON SAYS CHRISTIANS SERVE SAME GOD AS MUSLIMS

Here are some important quotes from his sermon:

I feel like I am in my zone when I have the chance to talk to church pastors and church leaders.

Source: Brian Houston, Hillsong TV // Living For The Master’s Well Done, Pt1 with Brian Houston: 1:40, Sermon: Living For The Master’s Well Done, YouTube, Pt1, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVE2j_aeZ8M, Published on Jan 5, 2014. (Accessed 17/03/2014.)

In this quote, we will insert diagrams so you can see how just how Houston constructed his line of reason.

The difference is that the first two were purposeful, the third one was purposeless. And this is where I want you to think about this contrast.

You see, the first two, they knew their master. The third one had an entirely different view of the master. Listen to what the first two experienced with the master: they came to the master and said, “Here! I took what you had and I invested it. Here is your Lord’s money. And they’d increased it and doubled it. And this is what they heard from the master: “Well done!”

They heard encouragement: Good and faithful servant. They heard positive reinforcement: You’ve been faithful with a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. They were given god-given opportunity – many things! They experienced abundance! Enter into the joy of the Lord! They experienced joy!

The third one. Same master, talking about exactly the same master: “I knew you to be a hard man who had gathered where you hadn’t scattered seed and reaped where you hadn’t sown.” He said, “I knew- I knew-” He knew he had that perception of His master. “I knew you to be a hard man”.

Hillslam Brian Houston Diagram 1

“Well done! Good and faithful servant!” Encouragement. Positive reinforcement. Abundance. Joy.

“I knew you to be a hard man.”

They are describing the same Master.

We all serve the same God but not everyone in the room sees God the same way. And nothing would determine the culture of your church more than your view of God. So our view of God is so important.

Without walking around judging churches, to go into a church, experience the worship, sense the atmosphere, maybe walk in the corridors, I think that I can soon see a pastors view of God. If a pastor believes that God is free-Spirited and live their life free-spirited their church will be free-spirited. Sometimes a church is stiff. Sometimes a church is conservative. Sometimes a church is legalistic. Sometimes a church is rigid. Sometimes a church is just lacking any kind of sense of rules or any semblance of any kind of order. Some churches, they just reflect in different ways but you should never underestimate your view of God.
And if your background, if your religious background, if your denominational background, if your church school background, if maybe just some of your own condemnation and guilt that your parents put into you that is determining your view of God, it will always affect your ability to live purposefully. The one who lived purposeless, he took what he was given and he hid it in the ground.Hillslam Brian Houston Diagram 2

The two who knew the Master, they took what they were given and they doubled it. Nothing would determine the way we treat people more than our view of the Master, of Jesus.

Nothing would decide the way we conduct ourselves in our marriage and the way we raise our children than the way we view God.
David said in Psalm 119 verse 68 about the Lord, “You are Good, and you do good”. You see, who you believe God is, will determine what you believe God does. You are good and you do good. Psalm 11:7 is similar. It says, “the Lord IS righteous. He loves righteousness; and his countenance beholds His favour”. His face is favour. His smile is on the upright or the righteous.

The way you see God, decides what you believe God does, what you believe God loves and what you believe God blesses, where His favour will be.

Hillslam Brian Houston Diagram 3

So I couldn’t encourage any leader who wants to live purposefully and who wants to build a church that reflects the heart of God, I couldn’t encourage you more to make sure that your view of the Master is through a New Covenant, New Testament lens. That we look at the Old Testament, which is so full of beauty and power and example and wonder and is so much of the whole tenor of God’s message, that we need to look at it through the lens of the resurrection and the cross and back into it from where we stand now and not from where they stood then. Because otherwise it’s going to affect your ability to be purposeful in building and leading and bringing release and bringing freedom and seeing those things God puts in your heart come to pass.

Hillslam Brian Houston Diagram 4

“How do you view God? In a desert there’s two types of birds: there’s vultures and there’s hummingbirds. One lives off dead carcasses, rotting meat. The other lives off the beautiful, sweet nectar in a particular flower on a particular desert plant. In the same desert, they both find what they’re looking for.

Do you know – take it all the way back into the Old Testament and the Muslim and you, we actually serve the same God. Allah to a Muslim, to us Abba Father God. And of course through history, those views have changed greatly. But lets make sure that we view God through the eyes of Jesus, the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the beauty of a Saviour, the loving open inclusive arms of a loving God.

Hillslam Brian Houston Diagram 5

And that way we’ll lead out of that and you’ll be purposeful about your leadership and you’ll draw people just like the Lord Jesus always does through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Finally, Brian Houston seems to embrace Muslim believers and not tolerate bible-believing Christians.

“The person who is legalistic, critical, negative in the name of God, they just don’t know God. That’s the way it seems.”

Source: Brian Houston, Hillsong TV // Living For The Master’s Well Done, Pt1 with Brian Houston: 21:30, Sermon: Living For The Master’s Well Done, YouTube, Pt1, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVE2j_aeZ8M, Published on Jan 5, 2014. (Accessed 17/03/2014.)

To end, we would like to point this glaring fault in his “clarification” in our diagram:

In Brian Houston’s clarification, he decided to attack critics for his gaff. We will offer our views on this soon.

Meanwhile Apprising Ministries reports,

WORD FAITH PREACHER BRIAN HOUSTON ATTEMPTS TO CLARIFY HIS RECENT STATEMENT CONCERNING ISLAM

You might have seen the March 18, 2014 Apprising Ministries piece WF Preacher Brian Houston says Christians serve same God as Muslims. In it I shared the following clip from Houston’s Hillsong TV // Living For The Master’s Well Done, Pt1 program:

I then provided you with a transcription of what he says in that clip:

How do you view God in a desert? There’s two types of birds. There’s vultures, and there’s hummingbirds. One lives off dead carcasses, rotting meat.

The other lives off the beautiful, sweet, nectar in a particular flower, on a particular desert plant, in the same desert. They both find what they’re looking for.

Do you know—take it all the way back into the Old Testament—and the Muslim and you, we actually serve the same God. Allah, to a Muslim; to us, Abba Father, God.

It would seem pretty clear above that Houston has just told us those who adhere to the world religion of Islam, the followers of the prophet Muhammad, are serving the same God as those of us who are regenerated believers in the one true and living God of the Bible, the followers of Christ Jesus, the Lord.

But later on Brian Houston, who is Senior Pastor of the nefarious Word Faith haven Hillsong Church (HC) Australia along with his wife pastrix Bobbiee,1 could be seen going around the Internet proclaiming: Wait a minute, that’s not really quite what I meant.

Well, now pastor and pastrix Houston have issued the following joint statement attributed to Brian Houston on their Facebook page:

proof_ApprisingHoustonClarification_30-03-2014 (source)

Being one of those “critics” I wanted to make sure that in the interest of fairness you’d have the chance to see this for yourselves. I also wish to point out a couple of things here, speaking simply for myself as I have no way of knowing the intentions of whatever other critics Brian Houston is talking about; whomever they may be.

First of all, I didn’t say Houston believes Muslims and Christians worship the same God. I have no way of knowing what he believes unless he specifically states it. However, apparently Brian Houston shares with God the ability to know what others believe:

I realize that some critics WANT to believe their interpretation,…

In my case the title of my article is clear: Brian Houston says Christians serve the same God as Muslims. That is exactly what he did say:

Do you know—take it all the way back into the Old Testament—and the Muslim and you, we actually serve the same God. Allah, to a Muslim; to us, Abba Father, God.

He can claim that’s taken out of context, but that statement sounds/reads as if he personally believes this. There’s nothing in the prior part of his message that changes this, which is why I only highlighted the previous clip. That’s also why I also put in one of Houston’s attempts at clarification:

proof_TwitterJohnstonAndHoustonCorrection_30-03-2014(source)

As I explained before, his clarification really doesn’t help him. It makes it look like he does hold a common, but erroneous, view that Islam is an Abrahamic faith. If Houston does believe that, then the statement below is indicative of his own beliefs and not merely that of some Muslims:

[T]ake it all the way back into the Old Testament—and the Muslim and you, we actually serve the same God. Allah, to a Muslim; to us, Abba Father, God.

Notice that Houston says you—to the Christians he’s addressing—then appears to include himself with them as he says ”we actually serve,” etc. ” Now we know that Christians holding the view that Islam is an Abrahamic faith usually also believe the Muslim has wrong beliefs about the one God.

The problem really isn’t with someone like myself who is trying to understand what is being said by attributing the meanings to words I find in dictionaries and text books. No, the problem stems from Christians who use what seems to me to be purposely vague language when it comes to the false religion of Islam.

For example. there’s A Common Word” Christian Response where we read:

As members of the worldwide Christian community, we were deeply encouraged and challenged by the recent historic open letter signed by 138 leading Muslim scholars, clerics, and intellectuals from around the world. “A Common Word Between Us and You” identifies some core common ground between Christianity and Islam which lies at the heart of our respective faiths as well as at the heart of the most ancient Abrahamic faith, Judaism…

Before we “shake your hand” in responding to your letter, we ask forgiveness of the All-Merciful One and of the Muslim community around the world… What is so extraordinary about “A Common Word Between Us and You”… lies,…in something absolutely central to both: love of God and love of neighbor…

We applaud that “A Common Word Between Us and You” stresses so insistently the unique devotion to one God, indeed the love of God, as the primary duty of every believer. God alone rightly commands our ultimate allegiance… We find it equally heartening that the God whom we should love above all things is described as being Love. In the Muslim tradition, God, “the Lord of the worlds,” is “The Infinitely Good and All-Merciful.” (source)

Unfortunately, such language is a bit disingenuous because does give the Muslim the impression that the Christian signers of that document, e.g. Rick Warren, are saying that they believe in the same God as those in Islam. Keep all of this in mind, and then let’s take a look at the following from Houston’s new statement:

The botheration begins when Houston’s words in his original message are combined with his later Twitter statement, “Islam descends from one of Abraham’s sons.” They could easily seem to indicate that, in spite of their differing views about God, he meant Muslims and Christians do serve the same One.

As I get ready to close this out, I offer that if Brian Houston wishes to address such important and sensitive subjects as the nature of God and the religion of Islam then he needs to learn to be more precise in his language. That said, Islam cannot be an Abrahamic faith because it doesn’t believe in the God Abraham believed in.

First of all, Islamic history says its faith originates with an extraterrestrial visit:

Muslim tradition states that the angel Gabriel visited Muhammad and gave him the words [of the Qur’an] directly from Allah. (source)

However, if there truly was such a visit, then it was a lying spirit, possibly sent by God Himself (cf. 1 Kings 22:19-23). In other words, it would have been a demon who was impersonating the angel Gabriel. It’s also important at this point to understand that:

The Qur’an (Koran, Quran) is the Holy Book of Islam and the religion’s most sacred writing. Muslims consider it the actual word of Allah and not the word of Muhammad to whom it was given. (source)

Now, since the Qur’an was supposedly brought by that being, who allegedly appeared to Muhammad, contradicts the Bible on the nature of God, then we know that this being could not have been an angel sent by the LORD God Almighty. If anything appeared at all, then it would have a lying, deceitful, spirit i.e. a demon.

As I told you in Keeping You Apprised of: Islam, while Islam does teach the existence of just one God (Qur’an 5:73; 112:1-4), Allah is so transcendent, incomprehensible and unapproachable, that it could not possibly be the one true and living personal God of biblical revelation, Who shows Himself to befriend men (Exodus 33:11).

The God of Holy Scripture is shown to be merciful to them because He loves them (Romans 5:5-8), and, in the doctrine of the Trinity, He reveals Himself as God the Father, God the Son–Jesus the Christ, and God the Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Peter 1:17; John 1:1,14; Acts 5:3-4; 2 Corinthians 13:14).

In fact, the Qur’an itself actually admits that Allah is not the God of the Bible in Surah 5:73-75 where it states:

They do blaspheme who say: God is one in three in a Trinity: for there is no god except one.

Finally, the Qur’an portrays a different Jesus from the One we meet in the Bible. It says Jesus was not crucified (4:157), is not Deity (5:17, 75), nor is He even the God the Son (9:30). So, in the end, Islam is not an Abrahamic faith because Allah, the god of Islam, is nothing at all like the Biblical revelation of the only God there is.

His lack of further clarification is actually confirming our suspicions that Brian Houston is pushing a secular agenda to expand his own personal Hillsong empire and his master’s domain. He has given us enough evidence to suspect this to be true.

For a long time now, Hillsong has not been showing the signs of tolerating the Christian gospel, the proper handling of God’s Word nor tolerating Christians who try to correct those in error the way the bible instructs them to do so. Will Hillsong remain God’s Church or the People’s Church?

If secularism is against Christianity, then a secular church is also against Christianity.

BRIAN HOUSTON’S “CORRECTIONS”

Before reading this article, you need to read this article.

Brian Houston: “the Muslim and you, we actually serve the same God”

Pastor Matthew Johnston of Riverbend Bible Church and lecturer at ‘The Shepherds’ Bible College’ recently tweeted the following to Brian Houston:

@BrianCHouston, actually did say that #muslims & #Christian worship the same God: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frnSIOhlobQ&sns=em … Did he mean it? @hillsong

Brian Houston responded:

@iMatthewJ @hillsong Yes it is what came out but No it’s not what I meant Meant that Islam descends from one of Abraham’s sons.. Ishmael.

Source: Brian Houston, https://twitter.com/iMatthewJ/status/445644310742958082, Twitter, 12:55PM – 17 Mar 2014. (Accessed 18/03/2014.)

proof_Twitter Houston And Johnston_18-03-2014

Furthermore, Brian Houston seems to have published on our website and various YouTube video comment sections the following “correction”:

I wanted to address the issue directly myself and agree that the statement was indeed clumsy in the moment and did not clearly communicate my intention. I was simply making the point that Christians and Muslims both believe that the God of Abraham is their God. I apologise for any confusion and obviously my allegiance is to the Lord Jesus Christ alone.

We are very grateful that Brian Houston has decided to take the time to be responsible over his error and send out “corrections”. However, we will need to address these “corrections” in a separate article. Especially when you see confused comments from Christians under his correction.

@bjornole777 @BrianCHouston @iMatthewJ @hillsong same God, different view.

Source: Brian Houston, Brian Houston: “The muslim and you, we actually serve the same God”, Hillsong Church Watch, https://hillsongchurchwatch.com/2014/03/17/brian-houston-the-muslim-and-you-we-actually-serve-the-same-god/#comment-1903, March 21, 2014 at 10:39 am. (Accessed 21/03/2014.)

It has concerned us that Hillsong and C3 members who have tuned into this controversy on various social media websites are also confused on this. Some Hillsong and C3 members believe that the Islam and Christian God are the same.

This should not be a surprise to anyone considering these ‘ministries’ are secular institutions that tolerate anything but biblical Christianity. It concerns us that Christians are more upset about Brian’s tiny statement and not offended with his sermon that twisted every single scripture for his own purposes.

It’s the equivalent of Christians complaining about a speck of salt in a saltwater pond, thinking that the pond is offering fresh water.

From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water. James 3:10-12

CHRIS ROSEBROUGH’S CORRECTION

While Houston offered corrections to his statement, Chris Rosebrough from Fighting for the Faith recently reviewed and corrected Brian Houston’s controversial statement around the issue of Muslims and Christians serving the same God.

Below, you can hear Chris Rosebrough critique Brian’s comment 57 minutes into his program.
