2 Peter teaches that false prophets and false teachers will, “secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed.”
Peter continues describing that these false men are,”like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant”.
Now it should be every Christian’s desire to not see anyone destroyed by God but instead repent, be saved and operate with the mind of Christ. However, is the below video a reflection of Hillsong’s leadership? Isn’t this simply sensuality? Isn’t this irrational-animal-like behaviour?
How does this glorify God? How can people tell this is a church?

Hillsong’s Monkey Business
From the same people that brought us Mr. Sparkle, comes…The Monkey. It’s a whole new type of “worship” experience.
We’re pretty sure we spotted a golden calf in there somewhere.
Aren’t you glad your kids are off the street at nights and are attending… well… church?

I don’t get it… Seriously, what’s going on here? It is meant to be some kind of worship? I’m very confused.

Hi there, this is song isn’t part of worship it was done at the youth groups just for some fun.
http://m.youtube.com/view_comment?v=IreiJvJZTGM&hl=en-GB&gl=AU&client=mv-google ”
It wasn’t done during the worship during the service in South Africa. At Hills at the time it was done AFTER the service had concluded. But you putting it in context would have blunted your post.
THAT is not CHURCH any way you look at it! In fact i found the whole thing pretty disturbing!
Coming from mega church ground zero (DFW) it sure looked like a youth worship service to me, so thank you for the clarification Newtaste. Right or wrong, Hillsong is a role model for other mega churches all over the world. Not understanding that this was just a little secular aerobic session for fun, churches across Texas have now adopted it as part of their youth worship in their quest to be just like Hillsong. Knowing that children are now performing this primal ritual as worship, does this change your perspective at all? Perhaps you could ask the leadership at Hillsong to produce a second video clarifying that this was not performed or encouraged as worship nor should it be.
Cheers.
this is worldly nightclub culture, this should be for the world not the church. this electronic dance music has entered into many of these modern contempary churches.
there is nothing fun about this, this is the music of the world not the church.
as i said before its the world dressed up as the church.
I agree this music isn’t suitable for church but personally I don’t think there’s anything wrong with listening to electronic music. Though this particular song is very annoying and I can’t understand why anyone would enjoy it.
If you want to go clubbing, go clubbing. BUT do not bring it toGods House.
Aww.. the monkey dance. I see you have found this video on Youtube.
I was attending Hillsong during this time. This was about a year and a half ago I think. I remember because back then I was also doing the monkey dance and I was just as deceived as everyone else. Thinking this is fun things to do after a church service.
@Newcatle is correct the dance was done after the 5pm church service at the Century City Campus. And the century city campus @mrhatch was a former night club in Cape Town called Dockside. Before they turned it into a church.
Angelique Alexander
yes so i saw on thier website, hillsong cape town bought the nightclub and turned it into church.
i have been in hillsong london and i heard phil dooley preach many times wiith hillsong united.
before he went to south africa in 2008, to plant a church there.
Are you for real? Come on, be serious. This is not worship, this is a youth group fun. In Sweden… ALL good churches have fun happenings with youth. Please, take away this and stop lying. It’s definitely not Christian to deceive people. Right now it is you who are hypocrites!
Base – you say “in Sweden… ALL good churches have fun happenings with youth.” I wonder if that’s true or just a major part of the problem in Sweden.
“Due to secularization, the preaching of liberal theology, humanistic thoughts, and prosperity “gospels,” many churches are weak. On average one evangelical church is closing down every week, and some are even converted into Islamic centers.”
From the Gospel Coalition re Sweden – “In the midst of this are positive signs among evangelicals, and an increased hunger for the Bible — especially among young people and future leaders. But there is a great need of strengthening those positive signs, and Evangelical leaders have targeted one major need — solid theological resources for the next generation of pastors.”
Does that “monkey” present the gospel as a solid theological resource? Or do we have to wait for it to evolve?

C.
What? This is some fun they are doing after a service. I still dont anderstand the problem? And yes, in Sweden we have a lot of fun in churches, and it doesnt have anything to do with secularization or a liberal theology. Do you really think this monkey dance have anything to do with the gospel preached in Hillsong? Do you really think this is something the preach in Hillsong? I’m speachless.
Base, there’s certainly nothing wrong with having fun. When I was younger my youth group didn’t even have services, just a Bible study followed by some fun and socialising. The problem is that this is a church service. It doesn’t matter if it’s not during worship. They’re acting like animals and as Paul taught in Corinthians church services should be orderly and build up the church. This is just entertainment, and bad entertainment at that. It wouldn’t surprise me if this has been done during worship anyway, because during my time at Hillsong I have seen worse, such as secular music being used during worship.
No. This is not in a church service. Read above comment: ” the dance was done after the 5pm church service at the Century City Campus.”
Whats i a seculare music? What was the text the sang during the worship? Can music it self be christian or seculare?
@Base: “ALL good churches have fun happenings with youth.”
Where would this be in Holy Scripture?
I cannot find Jesus Christ or the Apostles sanctioning this as ‘church’…or ‘entertainment’ as ‘church behaviour’.
Do ‘bad’ churches not have fun with youth? Is that the [UnBiblical] standard you have independently set and suscribe to?
@Base; “It’s definitely not Christian to deceive people. Right now it is you who are hypocrites!”
Ah, so the old Testament ‘tithe’ that hillsong expects from Christians is not deception?
Hypocrites?
Do you mean when brian houston said muslims and Christians serve the same God?
Do you mean when brian houston tweets and calls people evil and slanderers, and then deletes those tweets?
Do you mean when brian houston can’t find words like modalism in his dictionary?
Or when brian houston proclaims how he wants to love and help everyone..except having NO responsibility, moral or legal, to his father’s sex crimes against innocent children?
You need to study and apply the Holy Word of the Bible to your life and worship friend.
Hey hey! Stop…. Have I sad anything about what Brian are preaching? Stay in focus of the discussion.
So you think that the first christians didnt have any fun? You dont think the laughed about jokes? When they meet in homes, didn’t they play games? Danced? You mean that you dont play games and have parties with the youth in your churches? Do they only be on they knees praying and singing prais all the time. Tell me the truth, what are you youths doing and where can you find anything about that in the bible?
I’m pretty sure ‘playing games’ was not considered ‘church’, and absolutely sure that ‘playing games’, mr sparkle and monkeys or even Bingo aren’t considered Worship. When the Apostle John in Revelation describes what is in Heaven and around the Throne of Almighty God….were there people ‘playing games’ ?
“I’m pretty sure ‘playing games’ was not considered ‘church’, and absolutely sure that ‘playing games’, mr sparkle and monkeys or even Bingo aren’t considered Worship.”
After the teaching, Augustus will be leading us in Monkey Dancing accompanied by Lyre, while Bingo for drachma will be held in the back room…. 🙂
“Right now it is you who are hypocrites!”
@Base, was Paul a “hypocrite” when he got in Peter’s face in the book of Galatians and he decried Peter?
And are all the hundreds of discernment websites, and the thousands of Christians who comment on the current apostasy, also “hypocrites?”
How about the Bereans in the Bible, where they “hypocrites” too?
Perhaps you need to do less “monkey-dancing” and more seeking the Lord.
This is a fun thing done with the youth AFTER a service. How can Hillsong Church Watch lift this as a spirital question? No, this video is published here to demonise Hillsong but you can find thousands of videos from churches around the world with funny dances, games and so on. But… now it Hillsong, and Watch is using this against them. That is Hypocrites because that is not a christian way to act. They should speak the truth, and not bluff like this.
Why don’t they (some of those progressive churches) stop the monkey business and get back to basics. Preaching the pure unadulterated gospel, fellowship of the believers, sing and dance unto the Lord as King David after the victory in battles! 🙂
As king David danced .. But please don’t do it naked! Fully clothed is preferable…
Some say it was an accident..that David exposed himself celebrating after returning the ark of the covenant.
Whatever it is, I hope these modern progressive churches don’t start doing ‘stripping’ by saying .. “Well, King David did it”.. Why couldn’t we do it”..
Errr…yes…I personally don’t want to see senior brian houston do that.
It’s amazing how many times King David is used as an example to excuse nonsense disco dancing.
All i can say is: If the Ark of the Covenant appears in a hillsong church…then by all means..do it.
But until then, unless you are a Jewish King of Israel…give it a rest hillsong.
Apologetics radio show addressing Seeker-Sensitive church movement, definitely relevant to one of the most Seeker-Sensitive churches on the planet! Gotta love those blunt Baptists….

Tired, absolutely sick and tired of hillsong and the Houstons. This man gives praise to his sick, pedophile father in church to his brainwashed sheep and they aplaud. Obviously he is ok with that?Obviously the sheep are ok with that? Whats wrong with these devils. He rolls in his money from his satanic counterfeit Christianity. I don’t know how he sleeps at night. It is all so wrong on so many levels. How sick can you get Brian? His sermons are rubbish just like him and his sick child molesting father. I cant believe people turn a blind eye to the royal commission, the victims being treated like they are? The lies, the lies. If your going to tell lies you had better have a good memory and that you dont! The poor victims it is so sad for them. While he is living it up they are just coping day to day. Looked terribly nervous in the stand didn’t he. And swore on the bible! Don’t know what God he’s praying to and I don’t want to know.
I find the whole hillsong thing disturbing. I went to their conference at the
O2 arena last year. So called preachers yelling and screaming their heads off, wearing funny glasses etc.
You do not need to scream at people to spread the word. A lot of show boating. I just did not get it. Apart from a headache! Some of the preachers i avoided such as the one from New York Hillsong as his testimony of modernising the bible?
Just hillsong paraphinalia being sold of those performing. I would like to say preaching but it just was not happening. Found the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth and was glad to get away from the place.
I went to London Hillsong just before and this guy preaching was just acting and performing on stage with some of the word thrown in. Found his behaviour odd.
Any preacher can quietly have you enthralled by good biblical prophecy in Gods house without the showboating performances of Hillsong.
If i want a show i go to watch one. Preferably, Dame Judy Dench.
Hillsong is pure theatre. Loosely tied up with some biblical prothesising thrown in.Hillsongs version.
If you were in Brian shoes what would you do? What did Mars Hill pastor Mark Driscoll do when faced with criticism? He took a sabbatical and then resigned. Mars Hill folded. I find this quiet brave & humble act from MD. Hillsong is ten times bigger then Mars Hill. Do you have any helpful advise? If we keep praying for our christian churches and leaders that God will continue do the ‘pruning’ business for His glory…
What would I do if I was brian? Hmmmm? Number 1 I would take responsibility for the crimes I committed by sheltering a self confessed, child rapist & child molester. Number 2 resign from my role of senior pastor of Hillsong, president of the ACC. Number 3 from the vast millions of dollars of hillsong i would compensate the victims for the molestation by my father. The horrific abuse by my father and also breaking the law and covering for a known pedophile. Number 4 a written and verbal apology to the victims especially AHA of the royal commission for my vile and disgusting way that I had dealt with the whole situation. Number 5 I would pray for God’s forgiveness for lying on his word at the RC and the lack of remorse I have shown the victims and that God will forgive me. So does that cover your request of what I would do if I where Brian? But you know what, I thank God that I am not. I can look at myself with a clear conscious. Does this create a conflict of interest for you? Oh but brian doesn’t understand what a conflict of interest is.
Actually Slava, Driscoll refused to repent, refused to take part in the leadership investigations and pastoral restoration program, refused to take responsibility of his actions and is hiding in the heretical basecamp of Robert Morris’ church.
A key thing to consider is that fake leaders don’t know how to biblically repent. We’ve seen this with Brian Houston. Phil Pringle, Kong Hee and David Yonggi Cho. They have been caught. When they get caught they shrug off all responsibility – a concerning sign that may indicate to Christians that they are not believers. Why? Christians come into the faith through gospel repentance. If these men don’t know what it looks like, then it should alert people that they are not familiar with the saving gospel.
On the other end of the spectrum…. a layman telling preachers to “man up”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdZf5diAFOM
Public exposure is good for christians in high profile ministry.. Before Internet age, people got away with ‘murder’.. But not now. The watchdog may help them to repent. have a clean start in life and rescue them from hell! They should be thanking you church watch!:) do you ever get that?
One of adopted 85 year old Aunt is a huge follower of Jimmy Swaggart. I used to like him but not anymore. I don’t know what he and his sons are on about..bibles with their commentary on every sentence is very strange. selling dvd’s sermons & books for around $20- $25 .and yet we can get bibles for free!) bible talks on YouTube or podcast on whatever your heart desires. It appears like they are running a ‘business’. I think the old Jimmy S should have retired Or keep a low profile… And stop ripping off financially old ladies like my aunt! 🙂
All thats missing are the eckies and vodka! Maybe brian has them?
