We understand that the Jesus Hillsong, C3, Bethel, and other prominent churches promote promises you wealth and prosperity. They teach that their Jesus has Joel Osteen’s shiny teeth, Rick Warren’s purpose driven life, Kenneth Copeland and Jesse Duplantis’ private jets, Steven Furtick’s $1.7 million dollar home, and he offers all these things to you and more if you would just decree and declare them into existence in his name and tithe 10% of your income to your local megachurch.
God is love, as Rob Bell would say, and love is blind. Therefore, this Jesus doesn’t judge you for your sins, they’re just “oopsies” and “poor choices” that you didn’t really mean to make anyway. In fact, there’s no need to mention them at all. Instead, their Jesus’ emphasis is on you earning the gifts of the Spirit so you can speak in tongues, heal, and walk on water in his name! How cool is this Jesus? He just wants you to have your best life now!
It’s perfectly understandable that you’re infatuated with this Jesus. After all, he promises so many riches, blessings and comforts for you in this life, who in their right mind would say no to that?
Well, there are actually quite a lot of us Christians who would say “no,” and this is because the Jesus of the Bible promises persecution for those who believe in Him and NOT the prosperity or wealth that these popular “Pastors” and “Prophets’ would have you believe.
“Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, 22 and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.” (Matthew 10:21-23)
As a Christian observing this relationship you have with this false Jesus, I cannot in good conscience continue to watch him lie and abuse you and say nothing about it. You may not see the red flags since you’re the one in the relationship, but I guarantee you that this false god, Emo Jesus, is a master manipulator and attention hog. Not only is he whiny and co-dependant, he can’t do anything without your help and makes threats if you attempt to dump him.
Emo Jesus’ theme song:
If you don’t believe us, then take a look at this list of Abusive Warning Signs to help you see the seriousness of the danger you’re in:
– Forcing you to do work against your will.
Many Christians who attend Hillsong, C3 and other popular megachurches are guilted and/or pressured into doing volunteer work. Some people are even threatened if they don’t participate and are afraid to disobey.
Although volunteering to help at your faithful Church is a good work, the regular vocations of being a Father, Mother, husband, wife, son, daughter, coworker, boss, neighbor, friend, teacher, student, and so on are also considered to be good works by God.
“Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another, 10 for that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more, 11 and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, 12 so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.” (1 Thessalonians 4:9-12)
– Stopping you from seeking medical treatment or calling the police
Many “Pastors” and “Prophets” tell their congregants that they cannot speak negatively about their lives or their health or else they’ll curse themselves. Instead, they must believe that Emo Jesus will heal them, and if they’re not healed then it’s because they didn’t have enough faith.
– Attacking your sense of self worth.
– Insulting you, calling you names, criticizing you, humiliating you, Acting jealous or possessive.
– Accusing you of being with other partners.
Any Christian who wants to dig deeper into their Bible and know more about the REAL JESUS, the one who lived the perfect life in our place for us, died the death we deserve in our place for us, and who rose again on the third day so that all who believe will have eternal life and be forgiven of all their sins, apparently that Christian is a “jackass.” How dare that Christian attempt to dump Emo Jesus by getting to know the true Jesus of the Bible!
Perry Noble and the Jackass in the Church
– Withholding affection or acknowledgement in order to punish you
– Cheating on you intentionally
– Lying to you
No matter how much you tithe or follow those steps that you’ve been given to obey, you can’t help but feel jealousy when other Christians say that Emo Jesus has given them a direct revelation or a heavenly download! What are they doing that you’re not to gain Emo Jesus’ love and affection?
You may be told that you don’t have enough faith to gain Emo Jesus’ love and favor, but the Jesus of the Bible says,
“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person – though perhaps for a good person one would dare to even die – but God shows his love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.” (Romans 5:5-9)
– Threatening to hurt you, your loved ones, your pets, your children, or your possessions
– Sending you insulting or threatening messages over text, email or social media
– Spying on you, including cyber stalking
There are quite a few cases of Megachurch Pastors bullying and threatening those in their congregations who dare question their authority. This is because their diety, Emo Jesus, is insecure and demands total and complete authority without question.

Many “Prophets” of Emo Jesus will tell you what’s in store for your future. If you stray from what they’ve prophesied then you’re going to miss out on Emo Jesus’ gifts!
Thankfully God has warnings in the Bible for Christians to adhere to so they’re not lead astray:
“As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.”
“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:3-14)
True or False? How to discern if a prophet is for real
– Blaming you for the abuse, saying that you deserve what happens or that you instigated the problem.
– Gaslighting, i.e. saying things to make you question your perception of reality, such as “That never happened, you never remember correctly,” or “Don’t get angry over such little things, you’re too sensitive.”
Sadly, there are far too many cases where people, who have asked for help from “Pastors” who serve this Emo Jesus, have not only been given the cold shoulder, but they have been told that THEY are the problem. Few of these abused people are brave enough to come forward with their story.

– Refusing to contribute to shared expenses such as rent, food, childcare, etc.
When you compare the average Mega Church Pastor’s wealth to that of their congregants you will notice a striking trend, which is more often than not that the Mega Church Pastor is living it up in a life of luxury while the average congregant is struggling to make a decent living.
Pastors are supposed to take care of their congregation and not spend the donation money on themselves.

If you find that any of these abusive warning signs apply to you, we highly recommend dumping Emo Jesus immediately, going to a faithful congregation that rightly preaches the distinction between Law and Gospel, Sin and Grace, Repentance and the Forgiveness of Sins, and trusting that the REAL Jesus of the Bible died on the Cross to save you from your sins.
